Chicago, 1927.
An unsophisticated vaudeville dancer finds herself embroiled in the murder of her lover, killed by her furious husband. It's a golden opportunity for her to promote her shows: she decides to take responsibility for the crime and ends up in prison. Her lawyer, a vaudeville enthusiast, organizes a media hype around her to gain public sympathy. Her dreams of glory and glitter are limitless, so much so that she suggests a (false) pregnancy to the press to revive the journalists' interest when they are interested in another pretty inmate.
Ready to do anything to achieve her stage ambition, she even pretended to faint at the trial where she was finally acquitted.
As the artist would say: Oops, I did it again!
